New in Rhino v5

Rhino v5 is the most significant upgrade in the history of Rhino, with more than 2000 new features and enhancements.

Rhino is now available in both 64bit and 32bit
versions for Windows.

Many plug-ins are already 64bit compliant - please call us for details.

A version for Mac OSX (64bit) is in devlopment but not ready for release.

Enhanced Display Modes

Rendered Display

Rendered Display Improvements allow real time feedback of realistic materials, lighting, shadows and reflections whilst modelling and editing. Now there is less need to create off-line renders to verify the design.

The Rendered display now supports:

Rhino v5 Display Improvements

Faster, More Responsive Display

The display pipeline in Rhino v5 is much faster and more responsive than in previous versions and, for example, large architectural projects
are now easier to visualise.

Significant display improvements include:

• Environment supports HDR Images

Rhino Render Window now allows for
Exposure Correction and Tone Mapping after creating the render. It also allows for the following channels to be shown
separately :

The Render Window Includes the following post render effects :

Rhino v5 Available Now from Simply Rhino


Modelling & Object Creation

Extrusions

Extrusions are a new object type in Rhino v5.
In the case where a model file has thousands of simple planar solids (for example a tower-block with many beams, columns, mullions, transoms, wall blocks etc.) then the file will be much lighter and responsive with these objects represented as extrusions.

Extrusions can easily be converted to Polysurfaces with the Convert Extrusion command.

Shelling

Solid objects can now be shelled to a given thickness with a single command that results in a watertight, manifold solid.

The Offset command has been improved to create more correct solid offsets.

Offset Surface now has a 'Loose' option that preserves the surface structure.

Sweep Improvements

Sweep Commands are now History Enabled and support 'Simple Sweep' option to create explicit geometry where possible.

Projection


Projected Curves and associated commands such as Curve from 2 Views are now History Enabled.

Projected Curves have a new 'Loose' option that preserves the curve structure.


Solid Tools

The Solid Editing tools now work on a wider variety of objects.


Object Editing & Transformation

Gumball

Gumball Editor - New in Rhino v5

The Gumball is a new object editing and transformation tool in Rhino v5. This allows for translation, scale and rotations of the selected object/s within one tool.

Sub Object Selection

Control+Shift Clicking on an object exposes Sub Object Selection whereby faces or edges can be selected.

Selection Filter

The Filter allows certain object types to be turned on/off for selection purposes.

Box Editing


Box Editing allows objects to be modified by their bounding box coordinates. One or more objects can be modified in terms of size,scale, position and rotation in either xyz or incremental values

Solid Points On

Vertex Points for Polysurfaces can now be turned on allowing direct modification of polysurfaces.


2D Layout Improvements

Annotations and Dimensions can now be scaled in Paper Space and controlled by Dimension Styles.

Enhanced Text Formatting controls.

Draw Order Control

Hide/Show Layers In Detail command allows different layer sets to be visible/excluded in
detail views.
