DIVA for Rhino

DIVA-for-Rhino is a highly optimized daylighting and energy modeling plug-in for Rhino3d.

The plug-in was initially developed at the Graduate School of Design at Harvard University and is now distributed and developed by Solemma LLC.

DIVA-for-Rhino allows users to carry out a series of environmental performance evaluations of individual buildings and urban landscapes including:

  • Radiation Maps
  • Photorealistic Renderings
  • Climate-Based Daylighting Metrics
  • Annual & Individual Time Step Glare Analysis
  • LEED and CHPS Daylighting Compliance
  • Single Thermal Zone Energy and Load Calculations


More recent functionaility to be added includes:

  • LEED v4 daylighting credit – simulate the credit using the IES-LM-83's sDA metric
  • Electric Lighting - load in and position IES files to simulate electric lighting

Technical Details / System Requirements:

DIVA for Rhino is a plug-in for Rhino3d and also Grasshopper so please follow the general  hardware and system requirement advice for Rhino3d as detailed here:

 Basic Specification Requirements:

 Rhino 5 for Windows runs on ordinary Windows desktop and laptop computers, with:


  • 1 GB RAM. 8 GB or more is recommended
  • DVD drive or an Internet connection for installation
  • 600 MB disk space
  • OpenGL 2 capable video card recommended
  • Note: Apple hardware is supported only with Bootcamp


Operating systems:

  • Windows 7 or 8 - recommended
  • Windows Vista
  • Windows XP (32-bit only) Service Pack 3
  • Note: Both 32- and 64-bit versions are installed on 64-bit Windows systems.



  • Service releases downloaded automatically
  • License validation and product registration is simplified


Not supported:

  • Linux
  • Windows NT, 95, 98, ME, or 2000
  • Windows XP 64-bit
  • Mac OS X, but an OS X version is under development.
  • Virtualization systems on OS X such as VMWare and Parallels
